Day to day itinerary

Settle into Monterosso al Mare, the largest and most accessible of the Cinque Terre villages, known for its wide beach, historic center and the church of San Giovanni Battista. Spend the afternoon exploring the promenade and viewpoints like Torre Aurora and Punta Corone before receiving your route notes and Cinque Terre Trail Pass.

Walk one of Italy’s most iconic coastal trails, climbing past vineyard terraces and citrus groves with constant Mediterranean views. Vernazza — arguably the most photographed Cinque Terre village — makes an ideal lunch stop before the quieter, higher-set village of Corniglia.

At the end of the day, take the train back to Monterosso or Bonassola. The perfect introduction to the heart of Cinque Terre.

A quieter, more panoramic day through the vineyard-covered hills above Volastra, descending into Manarola’s rock pools and colorful harbor before continuing to Riomaggiore, partly via the historic Via dell’Amore where open.

Hiking Difficulty & Trail Characteristics

Hiking in Cinque Terre National Park ranges from moderate to challenging. Although daily hiking distances are relatively short, the terrain can be demanding due to steep climbs, descents and numerous stone steps.

Many of the trails follow historic mule tracks and well-marked footpaths through vineyards, Mediterranean vegetation and rugged coastal landscapes. Some sections consist of large, uneven stone steps, which can be strenuous, particularly in hot or wet conditions.

Trail conditions can vary throughout the year. Cinque Terre trails may be temporarily closed due to heavy rainfall, storm damage, landslides or fire prevention measures. Always check the latest trail conditions before setting out.
