Your walking tour begins in Monterosso al Mare, the largest and most accessible of the five Cinque Terre villages. Settle into your hotel and spend the afternoon exploring the seafront promenade, the historic center and viewpoints like Torre Aurora before your first trail briefing.
Pick between two of the best-rated hikes on the Ligurian coast:
Option B: Riomaggiore → Portovenere (~15 km) — a tougher ridge route via Colle del Telegrafo for experienced hikers, ending at the dramatic clifftop church of San Pietro in Portovenere.
Option A: Monterosso → Vernazza → Corniglia (~7 km) — the classic Cinque Terre coastal trail, climbing past vineyard terraces with sea views the whole way.
Leave the busiest part of the Cinque Terre behind on a quieter trail via the Colle di Gritta viewpoint to Levanto, then on to Bonassola along a car-free path through former railway tunnels.
One of the most photogenic stretches of the Riviera di Levante: hilltop hamlets, sea viewpoints and terraced paths between Bonassola, Framura and Deiva Marina, before training back to Bonassola.
