Each stage takes you past colourful flower fields, atmospheric historic cities, and iconic Dutch landscapes with polders, lakes, and quiet villages. You cycle through the dune and flower region, discover Haarlem and Leiden, and follow scenic routes along water and open countryside. Every day offers new views, cultural highlights, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the spring flowers for which the Netherlands is world-famous.

Today you arrive in Amsterdam, the vibrant starting point of this colourful cycling holiday through tulip fields, historic towns and the Dutch countryside. After checking into your hotel, you have plenty of time to explore the city at your own pace. Amsterdam is the ideal place to begin a cycling holiday in the Netherlands, known for its picturesque canals, historic atmosphere and rich cultural heritage.

Take a walk through the famous 17th-century canal belt, a UNESCO World Heritage site, or discover quieter neighbourhoods such as the Jordaan district and the banks of the Amstel River. Culture lovers may wish to visit highlights such as Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum or Anne Frank House.

The rest of the day is yours to relax and settle in. Wander through charming streets, enjoy a drink at a terrace by the water, or admire the city from a canal cruise. This first day offers the perfect introduction to the landscapes and historic towns that await during the coming days.

In the evening, you receive all practical information for your self-guided cycling holiday, including maps, route descriptions and tips for stops along the way. You stay overnight in a comfortable hotel just outside the city centre, offering a peaceful start while keeping Amsterdam close at hand.

Today you leave Amsterdam behind and cycle straight into the characteristic Dutch landscape. This is the day you will encounter your first tulip fields — one of the absolute highlights of this cycling holiday. Following quiet cycling paths, you soon reach the beautiful region of South Kennemerland, where nature, history and water landscapes alternate effortlessly.

A major highlight along today’s route is the impressive historic steam pumping station at Cruquius, an important symbol of Dutch water management and land reclamation. Here you discover how the Haarlemmermeer was drained, a remarkable chapter in the history of the Netherlands. From there, the route continues through small villages, woodland areas and open countryside.

Shortly after Bennebroek, the landscape begins to transform as the first colourful tulip fields come into view, with striking bands of red, yellow, pink and purple stretching across the countryside.

Your day ends in Haarlem, a charming historic city known for its hidden courtyards, canals, museums and monumental buildings. On some departures, you stay in Santpoort, surrounded by nature in a beautiful country estate setting. Both overnight locations offer peace and atmosphere after a day full of memorable impressions.
This day is perfect for photography, as the flower fields in this region are often among the first to bloom, creating vibrant colours across the landscape.

Today is entirely dedicated to tulips — the perfect day to experience the famous bulb-growing region by bike. The route is intentionally shorter, giving you plenty of time to stop for photos, walk alongside the flower fields or plan a visit to Keukenhof (an extra overnight stay is recommended).

You start in Haarlem or Santpoort. If staying in Haarlem, the morning can begin with a walk through the historic courtyards, a visit to the Frans Hals Museum or a stroll along the River Spaarne. From there, you cycle towards the dune and bulb-growing region, where one of the most photogenic landscapes in the Netherlands unfolds before you: endless colourful tulip fields combined with hyacinths, daffodils and crocuses.

The flowers are commercially grown for export, transforming the area into a living painting every spring. Along the way, you pass charming villages and quiet country roads surrounded by vibrant colours.

Your day ends in Leiden, an atmospheric university city known for its canals, museums, windmills and lively squares. It is a wonderful place to stay, with many inviting restaurants and terraces.
This stage is the heart of the tulip journey and a true highlight for anyone wanting to experience the Netherlands in full bloom.

Your final cycling day offers a beautiful combination of nature, water and typical Holland landscapes. Leaving Leiden behind, you follow quiet roads into the Green Heart, a wide rural region of meadows, lakes, farmland and small villages. It is one of the most peaceful parts of the entire journey.

Cycling past shimmering lakes and wide-open polders, you continue towards Uithoorn, where you reach the banks of the Amstel River. This is one of the most scenic river routes in Holland, with winding dikes, historic farmhouses, elegant country houses and wide views accompanying your final kilometres. The route along the Amstel is a true cycling classic, combining tranquil countryside with the charm of Amsterdam.

As you approach Amsterdam, the landscape remains surprisingly green before gradually leading you back into the city. Following the water, you return to your hotel for the final overnight stay.

The evening is free to enjoy at your own pace — have dinner in the city, take one last walk through the canals or relax with a drink by the water.

This final stage offers a perfect summary of the entire Tulip Tour: flowers, water, history and the unmistakable pleasure of cycling through Holland.

After a final relaxed breakfast at your hotel in Amsterdam, it is time to say goodbye to the city and to this varied Tulip Tour through Holland. Although no official cycling route is planned today, it offers a quiet moment to reflect on everything you have experienced over the past days: endless tulip fields, historic cities such as Haarlem and Leiden, colourful flower landscapes and green polders.

Many travellers choose to spend the morning enjoying one last walk through Amsterdam, especially along the canals or towards the Amstel, where the city slowly comes to life. Others prefer a short visit to one of the city’s famous museums, such as the Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh Museum, or simply enjoy a final coffee on a terrace before departure.

The tour officially ends after breakfast. From Amsterdam, you can easily continue your journey by train, car or taxi to your next destination. Thanks to the city’s central location, with direct connections to Schiphol Airport and other European cities, travelling onward is easy and flexible.

With colourful memories of tulip fields, historic towns and classic Holland landscapes, you conclude this five-day Tulip Tour in a relaxed and memorable way.
