Your cycling holiday begins in vibrant Amsterdam, the lively heart of the Netherlands. After checking into your hotel, you have plenty of time to explore the city at your own pace. Walk through the famous canal district, a UNESCO-listed area known for elegant merchant houses, historic bridges, and quiet waterside streets that give Amsterdam its unique atmosphere.

For art and culture lovers, world-famous highlights such as the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, and Anne Frank House are all within easy reach.

If you prefer to experience local life, stroll through the charming Jordaan district or relax on a terrace by the water. You may also choose a short introductory bike ride through Westerpark or along the IJ waterfront.

With its wide choice of restaurants, cafés, and cultural highlights, Amsterdam offers the perfect relaxed start to this cycling holiday through Holland.

After breakfast, you leave Amsterdam on a relaxed cycling route through the outer districts before quickly entering the open countryside of North Holland. The transition from city to nature is remarkably fast: within just a few kilometers, urban surroundings give way to green meadows, quiet waterways, and wide open landscapes.

Today’s stage introduces you to the varied scenery of Kennemerland, a region known for its combination of polders, woodland, dunes, and historic country estates. The route follows quiet cycle paths and clearly marked roads, offering a comfortable and safe ride through one of the most attractive cycling areas near Amsterdam.

Along the way, there are excellent opportunities for birdwatching and enjoying the panoramic Dutch landscapes that make this region so distinctive. In April and May, you can choose an extended route of around 60 km through the famous flower fields, where large stretches of tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths create one of the most colorful cycling experiences in the Netherlands.

Your destination is either Haarlem or, depending on availability, Santpoort. Haarlem is one of the most elegant historic cities in Holland, with museums, lively shopping streets, and welcoming terraces. If you stay in Santpoort, you spend the night in a beautifully located estate hotel surrounded by greenery and tranquillity.

Whichever overnight stop applies, this first cycling day offers a relaxed introduction to the landscapes and atmosphere of real Holland.

Today you cycle through one of the most characteristic parts of North Holland, where historic villages, waterways, and traditional Dutch landscapes follow each other naturally. Leaving Haarlem or Santpoort, the route leads along quiet cycling paths through green countryside and open polders, with wide views over canals and meadows.

A major highlight of the day is Zaanse Schans, one of the most famous heritage sites in the Netherlands. Here you cycle past traditional windmills, green wooden houses, old warehouses, and craft workshops where cheese making and clog production are still demonstrated today. The area offers one of the most iconic Dutch landscapes and is a favorite stop for visitors exploring Holland by bike.

The route remains easy and comfortable, with flat terrain and excellent cycle infrastructure. Along the way you pass small villages, quiet waterways, and typical North Holland scenery that makes this stage especially varied.

Your destination is Zaandam, a lively town with a rich industrial history and a striking modern center near the river Zaan. After arrival, you can explore the town center or enjoy an evening walk along the waterfront before preparing for the next stage of your cycling holiday.

This open-air heritage site, filled with windmills, traditional crafts, clog makers, and cheese farms, is one of the absolute highlights of the trip. At Zaanse Schans, you can visit a working windmill, take photos, or relax on a terrace before continuing your ride to Zaandam, where your hotel awaits. A day full of iconic Dutch scenery and authentic local traditions.

Today you cycle from Zaandam towards Het Twiske, a beautiful recreational nature area that is popular with both nature lovers and residents of Amsterdam. The route takes you past water, reed fields, and small forests, with plenty of opportunities to pause and relax by the water. This peaceful green landscape offers a refreshing contrast to the busy city and makes for a wonderful start to the day.

From Het Twiske, you continue your route to Monnickendam, a historic town on the former Zuiderzee. Here you will find monumental buildings, a charming harbor, and narrow streets full of character. The town offers many cafés and terraces where you can enjoy a drink or lunch. Its maritime atmosphere and rich history can still be clearly felt today.

After Monnickendam, you cycle along the shores of the Markermeer towards Volendam, one of the most iconic villages in the Netherlands. Here you’ll see traditional Dutch costumes, wooden houses, fishing boats, and a lively dike lined with shops and terraces. Enjoy the friendly atmosphere and the beautiful views over the water.

This shorter stage offers the perfect balance between enjoyable cycling, discovering local culture, and relaxing along the way. It’s a wonderful day that ends in a village bursting with Dutch traditions.

Today you cycle back to Amsterdam, but first you head towards the remarkable former island of Marken. Via the long dike, you reach this unique village where time seems to have stood still. Marken is famous for its wooden houses built on stilts, its photogenic harbor, and its authentic atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to take a walk and capture some beautiful photos.

After visiting Marken, you continue your route along the shores of the Markermeer. The ride takes you through open polders, along quiet country roads, and past green landscapes. The combination of water, meadows, and traditional houses makes the kilometers pass by effortlessly.

As you approach Amsterdam, the surroundings gradually become more urban, while the route remains safe and enjoyable for cycling all the way to your hotel. Once back in the capital, there is still time to visit a museum, enjoy a canal cruise, or spend a final evening dining out.

This final stage perfectly reflects what makes this journey so special: nature, water, history, and a relaxed ride back to the starting point. A fitting ending to a diverse and truly Dutch cycling experience.

After breakfast, your cycling holiday comes to an end. Depending on your plans, you may still have some time to spend in Amsterdam, buy a souvenir, or enjoy one last walk through the city. Whether you travel home directly or extend your stay, you will take home wonderful memories of this special journey.
