After two days in Stockholm, you travel north by overnight train to Luleå, a comfortable and scenic way to cross Sweden during winter. In Överkalix, you stay in peaceful surroundings near a spectacular waterfall and enjoy classic Lapland experiences such as a husky safari, a snowshoe walk in search of the northern lights, a Sami excursion with reindeer and moose, and a fatbike ride through snow-covered forests.

The journey continues to Kalix, where a charming Arctic stay by the river awaits. Here you experience ice floating between the ice, followed by sauna and relaxation. You will also meet reindeer in their natural environment and enjoy the calm beauty of the winter landscape.

You travel north by overnight train and stay in unique locations surrounded by Arctic nature.

Every day offers new winter scenery, local experiences and unforgettable moments in the north of Sweden.

Your journey starts in Stockholm, Sweden’s capital, where you stay two nights in a boutique hotel in the lively Södermalm district. After arrival, travel by train from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to the city centre and continue by metro to your accommodation.

During your stay, you have time to discover Stockholm’s historic districts, charming streets, waterfront views and Scandinavian atmosphere. Södermalm is known for its boutiques, cafés, restaurants and cultural highlights, while Gamla Stan is also within easy reach on foot.

After breakfast and check-out, you have free time to explore Stockholm before boarding the overnight train to Luleå in the evening.

You travel north in comfortable sleeping compartments with private bathroom facilities. During the journey, you pass impressive winter landscapes on your way to Swedish Lapland. Breakfast is served onboard the following morning.

After arrival in Luleå, a transfer takes you to Överkalix, where you stay four nights in a comfortable holiday bungalow next to a spectacular waterfall.

Here you experience authentic winter activities including a husky safari, a snowshoe walk in search of the northern lights, a Sami excursion with reindeer and moose, and a fatbike ride through snowy forests. Between activities, you can relax by the fireplace and enjoy the peaceful Arctic surroundings.

After breakfast, you continue to Kalix, where you stay two nights in a charming Arctic manor by the river.

During your stay, you experience ice floating in icy water wearing a thermal suit, followed by sauna and relaxation. You also meet reindeer in their natural environment and enjoy the calm winter atmosphere before your transfer to Luleå Airport on the final day.

Practical information

This winter holiday in Sweden is suitable for travellers with a normal fitness level who enjoy snow, nature and active winter experiences. No previous winter travel experience is required.

During the journey, temperatures can vary from a few degrees above zero to around -35°C. It is therefore important to bring warm layered clothing, preferably in functional materials such as fleece, merino wool or synthetic fabrics.

Winter clothing such as insulated jackets, trousers, winter boots and gloves is included during activities in Swedish Lapland.

The overnight train from Stockholm to Luleå can be added on request once timetables become available. Flights to and from Zweden are not included, but can be arranged on request.

This journey is suitable for 2 to 4 travellers, with departures possible from January to the end of March, subject to availability.
